Where to Run While Riverfront Park
is Under Construction

Sections of Riverfront Park are currently closed, along with much of the Columbia Canal path, due to long-awaited construction work. The Columbia Canal is finally being repaired after the 2015 flood and embankment breach. This is a big step forward for the city.

In the meantime, we’ve put together some great nearby places to run that are separated from traffic. These routes were mapped with help from our friends at the Cola Town Bike Collective

Saluda Riverwalk (City of Columbia)

If you haven’t been here yet, go check it out. This paved, shaded greenway runs alongside the Saluda River and feels a lot like Riverfront Park. It’s super flat, peaceful, and also part of the Three Rivers Greenway.

Timmerman Trail (Cayce Riverwalk)

A paved route through woods and wetlands, with plenty of shade and boardwalks. These routes start from the North Entrance at Otarre Parkway, off 12th Street Extension. Some parts of the Cayce Riverwalk are still closed due to storm damage, so check the City of Cayce’s Facebook for updates. You can also use the Cayce Riverwalk Map to find trailheads, restrooms, and other facilities.

Parking: Use the Timmerman Trail lot off Otarre Parkway, just past the Cayce Tennis Center.
